I am happy to announce that Hawai`i’s Bento Box Cookbook, 2nd Course is finally in distribution!!! I have seen it at Costco, but I am not sure if the other stores have it on the shelves yet. To celebrate the books release, I am giving away two copies of my new cookbook and to enter, all you have to do is leave a comment below by Thursday 12 midnight HST. This Friday (April 23rd) I will randomly choose two winners and make the announcement shortly thereafter.
For Paige’s lunch today, I made her a turkey sandwich with a bird made out of cheddar cheese, a few strawberries, and a thermos of chicken vegetable soup. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Congrats Susan!! So exciting! Cute bird too. Did you get a new sandwich box? Very neat job, as always
Thanks Sheri!
I did get a new box! I was going to post about it a little but for the life of me, I can’t remember the name!!! O_O
Congrats on the book release! I am new to making bentos and enjoying your site
Thanks so much Andrea!
Good luck on the bentos, they can be so much fun to do!
oh, there you are! i missed your lovely work the past few days! i am loving how the flowers on the sandwich (and the colors of the flowers and bird) perfectly match the picks in the strawberries! the bird’s little eyelashes are adorable too
Thanks gamene!
My daughter had a bunch of in school birthday parties, where the parents supplied the lunches… so she didn’t have to bring lunch.
Those are the cutest little creations I’ve ever seen in cooking! Good work!!
Congratulations, Susan! I loved your first book and can’t wait to take a peek at the new one!
How exciting that it’s in circulation! I haven’t been able to find it yet.
Cute box, love the round sandwich. I keep threatening my daughter (15 yr old) that I’m going to do that to her sandwiches:) So far she just lets me use the picks in her fruit cup in her lunch! I guess I started bentos too late for her:(
Oooh that’s too cute! Congrats on the second book Susan, I’m a big fan of the first one, and if it’s possible it looks like this next one is even cuter!
We were saving a review of the first one for a “back to school” post but I’m thinking we might have to bump it up
yay for bentos! yay for books!
Beautifu as always
..Love the little eyes lashes
gives the bento a bit of a girly touch :p….and Congrats on your 2nd book
!
Congratulations! The butterflies are truly adorable! I wish you continued success!

Susan, I adore your bento designs and can’t wait to peek inside the cover of this book for the first time! Congratulations on your second book and thank you for sharing your recipes and clever inventions.
congrats on your book release! that little bird is so cute, did you cut it freehand?
Thanks Laura!
I didn’t cut the bird free hand… lol I am hopeless when it comes to that. I used a cookie cutter.
Oooohh! I love how you have made graceful, sweet round bentos a trademark, Susan. This is so vibrant and happy, with my fave pink and gold colors!
Beautiful! Can’t wait.
Congratulations Susan! I am excited to see your new book!
I can’t wait to pick up a copy of the new book. The first book is one of my FAVORITES! Congratulations on the new book!!
Susan, wonderful news about the cookbook! *applause* Love the sandwich, especially the cute pink flowers. Hope you and your family are well : )
Congratulations Susan on your new book, loved your first one! I already pre-ordered your second book, but would love to win one for the kid’s kindergarten teacher. She seems interested in learning how to bento and the book would be a great intro for her. Congrats again, can’t wait! Woohoo!

Congrats Susan!!!!!
Hope to win one
Congratulations Susan!
I can’t wait to see it on the shelves.
(Also, that bird is darling. The two plumes make it look like a quail.)
Hi Susan, I’ve missed your fun bentos these last few days, but I figured it was because of your awesome book, which is a fair trade!
Congratulations on what seems to be a exciting launch!
Congrats Susan on your book 2. It seems that everyone is looking forward to have your book 2 and of couse ME too…Once again, congratulations ! You did a great job to encourage mums to make beautiful bentos to their children.
I just ordered your first book on Amazon. I can’t wait to get it! I’m sure it will be filled with all kinds of bento inspiration – which I’ve been feeling kind of short on this month
What did you make the flowers and beak out of? Ham? Do you find yourself most often cutting your shapes free hand or do you use a lot of cutters?
Thanks Megan! I made the flowers and beak using fish sausage. But if you don’t have that them ham, bologna, vegan deli meats, or, even fish cake will still be a great substitute.
I do use a lot of cutters because it makes it a lot easier. I am terrible at cutting things free hand!
Congrats Susan for your second book release! Love your first book and sure will love the second book too. All the best Susan … hope you can make more bento books in English (^.^)
I have your first cookbook and my daughter and I love looking at it. One day, I’ll graduate to creating something as fabulous as you do. Maybe your second cookbook will push me over. I’ve started buying bento supplies and tools. So much fun!
So exciting!! Congratulations again on your new book!

I love your bird. The crest is really pretty and clever. Congratulations on your new book. I was just drooling over your first book last night trying to convert to weight watcher recipes. Hawaiian- low fat? I’m not sure those two words work together but the food looks so tasty.
With my child just about coming of preschool age, this would be a great way to usher him in to a new chapter in his life.
